Walking in July
We walked along the docks to pier thirty-nine,
Searching our map for the Exploratorium.
Is this the same place as the Maritime Museum?
We questioned as we walked but just couldn’t be sure.
From this view and that… all appeared, as it should.
But was it closer to Lombard or nearer the bridge,
Later walking along Fell Street from the Gardens… it would be easier to judge.
You should have taken a right, one block, from Chirandelli Square
Past Lou’s Blues where we saw the Trolley Buses queue on the road
You’ve made lots of mistakes like this one before!
… told you…we should have taken the tube or a bus
The tourist policeman would have shown us the way.
We’re wasting time, the whole afternoon
This is not the right place we’ll have to go home very soon.
But does it really matter if some time … we are
Somewhere other than where we’re meant to be
It’s so beautiful here and we’re glad we’ve come.
Forget the map, the time and the cost we liked it here
So we made every minute last and we made them our own
And when August came and the hours and days had all drifted away
Guess who most enjoyed walking all of that day!
