A Gardening Experience
She questioned… And I… Leaning heavily on the digging tool, stared, at the thin blue blank line of freshly turned soil facing me and my mind started to wander across overheard words and felt rhythms. Then, as I stooped and reached into the bucket, to drink deep, She stammered "f f_ _ _ _. …Ffawnix!
Ffawnix is good, ffawnix is cool, Once you've accepted a few simple rules. Like the letter "c" When it's followed by the vowels sounds of \i\, \y\, or \e\, The "c" always makes an "s" kind of sound Not the \k\ as in cat where it is usually found… Try it. It werks every time, Well it does that phor me; you should try it and see. Just think, English words never ending with the letters "i", "u" or "v".
Well, That's how the Hukt on Fawnix committee fashioned the digging tool. With just a few exceptions, they say… I mention the pronouns the "I" and the "you", just so you'll, See, that there are no exceptions to the rule ending in "v".
Now notice that the word "have" always ends with an E. Why? Because, as I have told you, no English words ever end with a "v" But the student of fawnix, must heed what I tell, The vowel sound is always short when followed by a closed syll-a-ble. Some other exceptions unfortunately follow Like the letter 'c' sounding \ch\ when spelling the word 'cello'. And the \sh\ sound in shop that you get spelling 'ocean', Is just like the \sh\ sound we hear when spelling the word motion. The word 'ski' ends in 'i', though it sounds as like an E And, the word 'gnu' ends in U when you are sure it oughtened too. But it's an African word and indeed ‘tis a pity, That when listening to ffawnix you can't see the spellings that are witty. But like the word ‘gnu', I'm sure you'll agree, Our language is like a horse, designed – by – committee."
"Slowly straightening, I said ………………..ar-ah-go-on". 1 2
